Writer's Block / Surf Rock

Writer's block really stinks. I can't say I'm actually blocked, though - it's more that I'm not making the time to write. I'm finding every excuse NOT to write. The shame is that I have a lot of creative deadlines. This month has been about poetry deadlines, monologue deadlines, play script deadlines...ugh. I can't even.

I'd love to hear what other people do to pull themselves out of creative slumps. Like - what's the weirdest thing that's inspired you to write? The most unexpected creative trigger? For me, I get absolutely obsessed with music. When a song resonates with me, I will listed to it on repeat for hours. Weird, I know. But for me it creates a mood, keeps me focused and in that world I'm trying to create....maybe it's too isolating, I don't know...but it really helps with first drafts.

Here is the song I'm currently obsessed with:

This isn't really surf rock - but it did send me toward that genre, which I've been digging through thanks to the wonders of Pandora. Any bands around NY/NJ playing this type of music? Hit me up.

OK. That's it for now. Have a creative day, everyone!!!

I just got profiled!

Hey all --

Breaking news in the stratosphere: Christine Goodman is a vegan. Ok, I've been a vegan for 8 months but I'm running an art organization over here and terribly behind on my blog so what can you do.

I was absolutely humbled when JERSEY CITY VEGAN, a new blog in town that is taking Jersey City by storm, approached me about being interviewed for their new "Vegan Like Me" feature. Heck yeah!

So check it -- I'm their very first "Vegan Like Me" interview. WHAT!

Be sure to also check out RED RADIO - my favorite (free) vegan podcast. Erin Red, the show's host, is also just plain awesome. So if you are a non-vegan but awesomeness is your thing, I think you'd like her too.

Murder, Marriage, Sleep Deprivation, and Twitter

MURRRRDERRRR

It's been a very busy spring in the Goodman universe, beginning with MURDER ON ICE, an original play which I wrote, produced, and designed the costumes for. Set in a 1945 (faux) ice rink, MURDER ON ICE is a tongue-in-cheek murder mystery and was a ton of fun to produce!

How strange to write a play and then -- voila! It's on stage in a full production within 4 weeks! A head-spinning experience, and one I wouldn't trade for the world. We're making a DVD of the show and I'll share the info on how to get a copy as soon as they're available.

GETTIN MYSELF HITCHED!

In other news, the wedding is just around the corner, and I'm surprised by a few things:

#1 The wedding is just around the corner

#2 We aren't really stressed about it

Things are moving along well, and we're both really excited. Big ups to Michael Flinck for being super cool and a great partner in crime. We are getting married on August 5, so I'm going to be off the radar Mid-July to Mid-August.

CHRISTINE IS IN A PLAY!

Yes, it's true. For the first time since 2008, I will be appearing in a play -- which opens this Frday! Only 4 performances, and tickets are limited so get them in advance!

I play Susan Price, a woman who hasn't had a good night's sleep in decades. Her world unravels and the truth of what's keeping her awake comes to light.

Come check it out! It's in Brooklyn as part of the Bococa Arts Festival: www.bococaartsfestival.com

June 17 @ 7, June 19 @ 4, June 20 @ 9:15, June 23 @ 7. Tickets: $18 at the door, $15 online

I AM FLYING SOLO ON TWITTER!

I figured that folks who follow njarthouse on twitter (Art House Productions' official Twitter account) may not necessarily be interested in hearing about my ramblings on things like curly hair, politics, and my recent obsession with the UFC. To that end, I've created my very own Twitter account. Follow me HERE!!! Woo hoo!
